Not for the faint of heart!!!

This afternoon I heard Justin yell out in pain, then groaned, and then yelled for me to come take a look at what he just did...*gasping from sprinting into the kitchen panicked at what I would find, I found J holding his right hand over the sink and there is blood all over my kitchen. No joke! Blood was splattered on the counter, floor, and pooling in the sink. Halloween is over, so why did it look like a massacre in my kitchen??? All because of this little guy...

The electric can opener didn't work for J, so he decided to use a sharp kitchen knife and pry the lid open. That is when the jagged sharp lid cut the base of his thumb open...okay, so it was more of a laceration! I had to bite my lip to keep from throwing up seeing all the blood. And where oh where did my CPR training skills go when I really needed to use them??? Hmmm, not sure really. I'm thinking that the panic took over and my brain turned to mush. And where oh where is my husband??? Elk hunting...grr! My brain kicked in enough to call our good friend, Gina Wadley, who is a nurse. Bill answered the phone and somehow understood my jumbled words, or heard the panic in my voice because they both rushed over to our house. And with their amazing First Aid skills, bandaged J up like this...

After spending two hours in the ER waiting room, they finally called him back. They wouldn't let me go with him because he is 19 years old and of age. WHAT?!?! I waited a couple minutes to try to calm down but I ended up giving the front desk a piece of my mind. "I have legal rights as his parent to be back there with him!" "Fine, then send the damn bill to him, not me!!!" A nurse over heard me going postal, and said that I could go back there. I was so mad that my hands were shaking. When I got back to where they had J, I took this picture...

The doctor was LDS and extremely nice. I didn't think he would let me take pictures but he did. I used my cell phone at first, then busted out my real camera. J was so embarrassed that I was I snapping shots of his injury. The doctor dug around in his wound and believes there might be nerve damage because J has numbness in parts of his thumb. Now, J needs a hand surgeon. Great, can't we just count that as his Christmas present??? So, the stitching on J began...

Not sure if you can see clearly, but the Dr. has the "hook" in J's hand and is starting to push it back out. J ended up with 5 stitches in his hand. As we were leaving for the hospital, he turns around and tells his sisters to "make sure you put the Spagettio's in a bowl for me so I can eat it when I get back." Seriously, he was more worried about his food than his hand. Boys!
