Scouting can be hazardous to your health???

How can the annual "Scouting for food" be hazardous to your health? Well, if you are Cody, it's extreme enough to land him in the ER. The doctor there truly thinks I am stalking him for being there two Sundays in a row. The girls are actually taking bets on which one of them is going to be in the ER next Sunday. That's not funny! Anyhow, Cody went with his scout troop to do the pick up for the scouting for food drive around 1pm yesterday. He was home by 3pm and said, "Dad, can you scratch my back, it itches?" I lifted his shirt to see why and this is what I saw...

We gave him Benadryl and kept giving it to him every 4 hours until midnight. When we woke up he had gotten worse. His back went from the above picture to this...

His scar was a little red when we first saw that he had broken out into hives. In the middle of the night however, his face went from this....

To this... His eyes were so swollen and his body was covered from head to toe with itchy hives which were progressively getting bigger. He was really good not to scratch them tho.

In the ER they hooked him up to an IV and gave him a steroid, Pepcid, and Benadryl. Who would have thought that Pepcid would work to get rid of the hives. They had him rest for about an hour then released him.

The doctor thought he was being funny when he wrote out his first prescription and gave it to Cody to give to his scout leader...

Then, as we were leaving, the doctor said, "See ya next week!" That is just so not funny! Does he not know our track record for hospitals? I'm beginning to think that he just might after today. Cody is starting to feel better and hopefully he will be hive free for school tomorrow. But if not, we will have a fun day together doing lunch and a movie.

  1. That is FREAKY. Poor kid. Did the doctor figure out what caused it, though?
