Guitar hero...

Cody has been begging for guitar lessons for quite awhile now but I have been very reluctant as to start with this new adventure for him. I just wasn't ready to spend a lot of time and money into getting the ball rolling. I have put it off for far too long, and caved to the pressure. I knew he wanted lessons really bad so I used that as behavioral leverage. However the guilt got to me that the girls are in their lessons, why not get him into his own lessons. They say playing an musical instrument really helps children with their grades in school right?
So I took the plunge and found him a guitar teacher that comes to the house for lessons...umm life would be SO much easier if piano teachers came to our house too :) And look at the results!

Just check out that smile from Cody! That is worth the money spent just to get that guy to finally smile. I love it! As you can see, I found another leverage with Cody...his hair! Yep, that is 2 inches off and he was smart enough to stop when threatened with 4 inches off. So here is the dilemma... I originally told Cody that he would have to earn the money himself for the guitar and I would pay for the lessons. But the girls didn't have to pay for the piano (which I won in a bet with my hubby...foolish man to bet against me ;) but that is another story). So I am thinkin that if he sticks with the lessons he doesn't have to pay me back for the guitar purchase. Ugh...is it ever easy to choose which is the right or wrong way when it comes to kids???

  1. He does look happy! I say, if you have the money, pay for the guitar. It's keeping him busy and happy. What a great talent to aquire!

  2. Joe and I have always said, that if they like it and stick to it, we will do whatever it takes to keep them in it, no matter how much it hurts us financially. The busier you keep your kids, the less time they have to get in to trouble.
Skylar is in piano right now, but we told her we are not buying a piano until she stays in lessons and proves to us that this is what she really wants to do and practices like she should.

  3. This is a great thing, even if it is expensive. Totally worth it. And look at that smile!

  4. I think that is totally awesome. Both of my sisters' husbands play the guitar and my girls love to have "jam sessions" with them (the pressure is on for them to learn ALL of the Taylor Swift songs that they can...those are the only songs my girls ever request). Having any sort of musical inclination at all is a gift. Go for it! :)
