Paradise

After hiking 11 miles into the Grand Canyon, this paradise was the long awaited reward for Cody and his scout group. Miles and miles of being tired, hot, thirsty, and sweaty, Havasupi was a very welcomed site. They spent 4 days here and in the surrounding area. Cody said that they fulfilled the 50 mile hike requirement on this trip. But will have to do another hike for the 25 mile requirement. The leaders were really smart in getting the boys ready for this long grueling hike. For weeks the young men's night was dedicated to practice hikes with rocks or weights in their backpacks. I would have thought that Cody's feet would have been toughened up with all these practices, but he still came home from scout camp with 8 -10 blisters per foot! Not kidding! I told him that he should have worn pantyhose but apparently it is not manly! While they were there, they went on a hike and Cody's group was first to arrive back at camp at around 8pm. They waited and waited for the rest of the group with the leaders and Bishop. They tried to get the park rangers to send a rescue party but they said they would have to wait til morning. Finally around 10:30pm the missing group came trudging into camp. Apparently no one had flashlights with them as they tried to ascend a side of a cliff that was steep and had stone steps, and the only thing that was of use to see with was a glow stick that Zack Gainey had. They had planned to be back well before nightfall but some of the others were slow in hiking back. All in all Cody said he had a great time, especially cliff jumping into the pool of water shown above. And having some LDS women take pity on the group and fixed them lunch and dinner. Cody was excited that for those meals he got to fore go his dehydrated meals. I don't blame him there! I would love to go to this beautiful place with my family, but I really don't think I could make the 11 mile one way hike. However they do have a helicopter to take you down for $100 plus you would still have to hike 2 miles. I'm thinkin that is the route for me! I could just meet my family there and it would still count as together time right???

  5. I didn't know about these falls...but I live under a rock, so that explains it. One blister is bad enough but 10 per foot? Cody should win a prize or something.
